AUSTINTOWN
Local Bank of America employee volunteers, representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley and other volunteers will help a family rehabilitate their home from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Austintown.
The house, at 4271 Lake Road, is being rehabilitated for Tamesha Elliott, her daughter and her elderly mother.
Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley recently received a $10,000 grant from Bank of America.
Volunteers will install drywall, paint and perform other tasks. The house is slated for completion by Thanksgiving.
The event is part of BOA’s third Global Build Week, which kicks off this weekend. Throughout the week, BOA America joins forces with Habitat for Humanity to address affordable housing challenges, here in the Mahoning Valley, as well as in 68 other U.S. cities and seven international locations – London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Jakarta, Manila, Toronto and Mumbai.
This year’s build celebrates BOA’s 30-year commitment to Habitat for Humanity and its work together to connect individuals and families to affordable housing, said Jennifer Hurd, Bank of America senior vice president and market manager for Ohio.
Access to affordable, stable housing is foundational to a family’s financial stability and growth. For more than 25 years, BOA and Habitat for Humanity have worked together to revitalize communities and help people in need, such as the Elliott family, build a place to call home, Hurd added.
Overall, Bank of America has invested $30,000 in grants in the Mahoning Valley to help individuals and families regain and maintain financial stability through access to affordable housing and financial coaching, said Monica Craven, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley.
