The Ohio Developmental Services Agency Office of Community Development has awarded a $300,000 grant to Mahoning County for the village of Lowellville’s downtown revitalization project.

“I think it’s important for the village and for all communities to invest in economic development in their areas,” said AnneMarie DeAscentis, of the Mahoning County Office of Management and Budget.

Man charged with child endangerment

AUSTINTOWN

Officers arrested a Youngstown man on a charge of child endangerment after officers found he was driving while under the influence of alcohol late Wednesday.

According to the report, Anthony West, 26, of Plazaview Court, was driving intoxicated with a 4-year-old in the back seat of his car, not in a booster seat, westbound on Mahoning Avenue near Lexington Place.

Police cited West with driving with a suspended license, violating marked lanes, not having a proper booster seat for the child and operating a vehicle while impaired in addition to the endangering-children charge.

$300K lottery winner

YOUNGSTOWN

For Lashaunda Brown, playing the same lottery ticket repeatedly was a winning strategy. The Youngstown resident won a $300,000 jackpot from a ticket she purchased at Shell Food Mart on East Western Reserve Road in Poland.

Shell Food Mart receives a $3,000 bonus for selling a top prize-winning ticket.

After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 29 percent, Brown will take home $213,000.

Brown said she can buy a house earlier than she planned, but first she will buy a new car, according to an Ohio Lottery news release.

Boil alert for Girard

GIRARD

Due to a water main break, the city Thursday issued a boil alert for residents of a portion of a Beechwood Avenue. The warning affects an area from Park Avenue up to and including 874 Beechwood.

As a precaution, residents should boil water a minute and let it cool before drinking it or using it for cooking or brushing teeth.

The alert will be in effect until further notice.

Closed for road work

HOWLAND

North Road, between North River Road and Blair Drive, will be closed Monday and Tuesday for culvert replacement, said the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office.

The recommended detour route is west on North River Road, north on Elm Road, and east on Blair Drive.

Autumn Fest set

NORTH LIMA

Beaver Township will host its free Autumn Fest at the Nature Preserve, state Route 165, from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The event includes hayrides, educational displays, music, a petting zoo, pony rides, the Red Hawk American-Indian Cultural Society and the 61st Ohio Volunteer Company Civil War Re-enactors.
