Cardinal Mooney hosts back-to-school bash


On Aug. 28, the Marketing Committee of the Cardinal Mooney High School Board sponsored the firstl Back to School Bash at Cassese’s MVR Restaurant, located at 410 N. Walnut St. in Youngstown.

More than 400 students, staff and families joined in a day of feasting, fellowship and fundraising to kick off the 2016-17 academic year. MVR catered a dinner and members of the Cardinal Mooney Community provided baked goods and candies for a Mahoning Valley-styled cookie table.

The bash was preceded by a corn hole tournament with proceeds going to the Carmine L. Cassese Memorial Scholarship. The tournament raised more than $1,200 for the cause. Winners, CMHS alumni Gino Divincenzo and Joe Cunningham, donated their cash prize to the Carmine L. Cassese Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Mooney Family also collected donations for the Lauren Bowman Fund to assist the family of the recently deceased St. Christine’s student.
