Sean Astin to visit area for Clinton

Actor Sean Astin, known for his roles in “Rudy” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, along with members of “The West Wing” TV show will be in the Mahoning Valley campaigning for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Astin will meet with volunteers and students at 4 p.m. today at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center.
Cast members of “The West Wing,” the former long-running NBC TV show, will participate in grass-roots organizing events Saturday in the Valley and in other parts of Ohio. The actors involved are Richard Schiff, Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford, Dul Hill, Joshua Malina and Mary McCormack.
Power outage

Power was restored to more than 2,000 households and businesses in the Boardman area shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to FirstEnergy’s website.
The outages, which occurred in the late afternoon, were clustered mostly among some households and businesses off Shields Road and others off U.S. Route 224. According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, FirstEnergy did not disclose what caused the outage.
Mill closed today

Lanterman’s Mill in Mill Creek Park will be closed to the public today due to asphalt pavement maintenance work. The work will include areas directly around the mill and covered bridge. The mill will reopen Friday, with regular hours of operation.
Man arrested
YOUNGSTOWN
While making a routine traffic stop Tuesday at Woodland Avenue and Thorn Street for failing to signal a turn, city police arrested an Austintown man on a theft warrant from Boardman police and also on a heroin-possession charge after they said they found suspected heroin in the car he was driving.
Mark Scott, 26, of North Navarre Avenue, was wanted for reporteldy stealing $200 from the cash register at a Boardman pizza shop, where he was employed.

Township police are looking into a report that two masked suspects broke into a woman’s apartment, searched her home and took nothing Monday night.
The woman reported two black males, both at least 6 feet tall, in dark clothing and wearing masks, broke into her apartment on Shields Road at 10:23 p.m.
They woke her up and told her to move, then flipped over her mattress as if looking for something.
They continued to search her apartment for about 10 more minutes before leaving abruptly. No items were reported missing.
The woman told police she didn’t report the crime immediately because she was “scared and did not know what to do.”
Autumn plant sale

Mill Creek MetroParks Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., will host its annual autumn plant sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The event is sponsored by Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens.
