POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

Sept. 14

Theft: A woman discovered three bicycles had been stolen from her backyard in the 200 block of East Main Street.

Theft: An East Liberty Street woman alleged a worker for a sewer and drain business failed to reimburse her $250 after a snake tool had become lodged in one of her drains and the job was never finished.

Menacing: Three juveniles playing a game on sidewalk in the 500 block of North Ward Avenue told police a man in his 40s who lives in the area demanded they leave and took a scooter and a bicycle that belonged to two of the accusers.

Sept. 15

Aggravated menacing: An official with Girard Intermediate School, 700 E. Prospect St., reported an 11-year-old student told her a man in a van had threatened the girl while she was at a bus stop near North Avenue.

Possible theft: A man said his wallet may have been stolen while he was at a business in the 1000 block of South State Street.

Theft: A woman reported a 32-inch TV missing from her Abby Street residence.

Sept. 16

Theft: A 10-speed bicycle was removed from behind a home in the 200 block of East Main Street.

Harassment: An East Prospect Street woman noticed a text message from someone claiming to represent the FBI that contained an application to supposedly receive $50,000 worth of free government money but stated she first needed to send $200, leading the accuser to believe her personal information may have been hacked.

Theft: A Church Hill Road man alleged his girlfriend had stolen $499 from his bedroom.

Sept. 17

Citation: Police responded to a possibly inebriated man who had just left a home in the 40 block of West Liberty Street before citing 36-year-old Gary C. Phillips of Forsythe Avenue, Girard, on a charge of public intoxication.

Drug paraphernalia: Authorities took 26-year-old Carmen J. Renna into custody while answering a call regarding a suspicious person possibly asking for money on Moccasin Trail. Renna, of West Federal Street, Niles, was wanted on a felony warrant from Liberty Township; he also was charged with possession of drug-abuse instruments when, police said, they found a syringe and a needle.

Arrest: A Girard girl, 16, was taken into custody at her residence on a detainer charging failure to appear in court.

Domestic violence: Ronald G. Madden, 39, of Church Hill Road, Girard, faced misdemeanor domestic-violence and assault charges after his girlfriend alleged Madden had struck her near her left eye during an argument. Also, another woman alleged Madden had struck her face.

Sept. 18

Trespassing: Officers responding to a report of an intoxicated person in the 100 block of Church Hill Road charged 20-year-old Joshua V. Rose, no address listed, with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct. An intoxicated Rose showed up at a relative’s home uninvited and apparently had used his identification card to try to force open a door to the residence, a report showed.

LIBERTY

Sept. 14

Arrest: Police were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to take custody of 26-year-old Samuel T. Hassel of Winner Road, Hermitage, Pa. He was wanted on Girard Municipal Court warrants.

Assault: A worker for a state Route 304 restaurant alleged his employer had used his stomach to push the accuser during a verbal altercation.

Aggravated menacing: A Youngstown woman at a Goldie Road big-box store alleged a man and a woman with whom she has ongoing problems had spit on and threatened her with bodily harm.

Damage: An Illinois Avenue man leaving a Goldie Road big-box store noticed damage to his vehicle’s driver’s-side doors and mirror, as well as to part of its fender, possibly after a shopping cart had struck his car.

Identity theft: A Lucretia Drive woman theorized someone had hacked into her bank account after discovering $2,800 was transferred to another account without authorization.

Arrest: Officers near Gypsy Lane picked up Christina P. Pizarro, 26, of Paxton Road, Boardman, who was wanted on a township warrant.

Sept. 15

Arrest: Youngstown police near Gypsy Lane handed 37-year-old Dakari Hudson to Liberty authorities. Hudson, of Ford Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a township warrant charging theft.

Theft: A man reportedly stole $750 worth of merchandise, including a touch-screen device, from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.

Burglary: To a home in the 200 block of Trumbull Avenue via a window. The burglar rummaged through several kitchen drawers before taking $25, a cellphone and a set of keys.

Theft: An Overbrook Avenue woman discovered 25 personal checks missing and that 10 had apparently been cashed.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive was found with three slashed tires. Damage came to $375.

Theft: Ryan M. Pezzuto, 27, of Beechwood Avenue, Girard, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property after a pair of headphones and a 43-inch flat-screen TV were taken from Walmart. In addition, a stolen cellphone was recovered, a report stated.

Sept. 16

Arrest: Officers responded to someone riding a bicycle on Northgate Avenue at night with no lights, then arrested 25-year-old Eshone M. Christian upon learning Christian, of Thornton Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Incident: A Logan Way man reported discovering in another person’s clothing two fireworks, both of which police confiscated and the Youngstown Bomb Squad took control.

Sept. 17

Drugs: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in the arrest of 23-year-old Rayshon J. Ware of Dearborn Street, Liberty, on a charge of possession of dangerous drugs after police said they found four 50 mg pills in a cigarette pack. Ware, who was wanted on a Youngstown warrant, also was charged with littering, accused of having tossed several pieces of garbage out his window.

Sept. 18

Arrest: Girard police handed to township authorities Carmen J. Renna, 26, of West Federal Street, Niles, who was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Aggravated menacing: The president of a local football association alleged a 50-year-old township man threatened him and to have the accuser’s wife beaten up during a confrontation after the township man had been informed he was not welcome at the field.

Sept. 19

Theft: A woman wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey reportedly stole several packages of meat from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

HUBBARD

Sept. 14

Criminal damaging: Someone broke a double-pane window on the side of a residence in the 300 block of Moore Street and did $200 in damage.

Threats: A Moore Street woman told police she had received two calls that were threatening, harassing and vulgar in nature, including a threat that she would he shot in the back of the head.

Sept. 15

Citation: After examining a piece of property on East Liberty Street, officers issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 49-year-old William B. Shields of Henn-Hyde Road, Cortland, with having numerous pieces of junk on the parcel, including seven 55-gallon drums, some with oil on top; a rusted trailer with a flat tire; and a pickup truck with no license plate and a flat tire.

Citation: Authorities received several complaints about junk vehicles and tires behind a building in the 100 block of East Liberty Street before handing a minor-misdemeanor citation to Charles E. Shearer, 58, of Hubbard-Bedford Road, Hubbard, charging him with outside storage of junk. More than 60 such tires, a rusted sign frame, an unlicensed recreational vehicle, four junk cars, empty oil containers and damaged car batteries were among the items found, a report showed.

Sept. 17

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 20-year-old Antonioly M. Rodriguez of Euclid Avenue, Struthers. Rodriguez was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a driving-under-suspension charge from Hubbard.

Arrests: After pulling her over in the 700 block of North Main Street, officers charged Kristie A. Kekich, 25, of Sharon-Hogue Road, Masury, with operating a vehicle impaired. During the traffic stop, a man in a pickup truck reportedly pulled in front of Kekich’s vehicle and went over a curb, resulting in the same charge against 32-year-old David M. Desantis of Wingate Road, Poland.

Sept. 18

Assault: A West Liberty Street woman alleged her boyfriend had slapped her during an argument in the 100 block of North Main Street. The accuser had a light-red mark on her cheek.
