CANFIELD

Township trustees announced the 2016 resurfacing project should be underway within the next two weeks.

The project, done in conjunction with Austintown and Boardman, is estimated to cost $737,000. Canfield trustees budgeted $190,000 for the roads but expect to come under budget at near $178,000.

Canfield’s portion of the project consists of the first 1,500 feet of Gibson Road and all of Steeplechase Run, Muirfield Drive, Bay Hill Drive and Fountain Valley Court.

Trustees shed light on another project bringing street lamps to Summer Wind Estates and Abbey Road.

Fiscal Officer Carmen Heasley said Ohio Edison is in the process of getting estimates for the cost of what she expects to be four street lamps for the developing area.

All residents living in those areas signed off on bringing in the lights for both security and “beautifying” purposes, she said.

“As nobody attended this meeting to voice against lighting these districts, we are moving forward to get them,” said Trustee Marie Cartwright.

Heasley said once the cost is determined for the lights, it will be placed on each property owner’s tax bill from those areas.

In other news, there will be an electronics drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Canfield Fairgrounds Government Building, 7265 Columbiana-Canfield Road. It is open to Mahoning County residents and will be run by Southside Recycling of Youngstown.

According to a township news release, officials will be taking old and broken electronics including computers, monitors, stereos, cellphones, telephones, microwaves and more.
