Homecoming set this weekend

warren

Kent State University at Trumbull will host “Rendezvous in the Alley,” the kick-off event for the first-ever Warren Homecoming, from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday on the first floor of the parking deck in Dave Grohl Alley. It is free and open to the public.

There will be free hot dogs and an appearance by Scrappy, courtesy of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, and music.

This is an opportunity for individuals who are coming back to Warren to reacquaint themselves with Kent State University at Trumbull and obtain information on its nursing program, veterinary technology program, police academy, library and theatre.

Those wanting to attend that night’s Warren G. Harding football game can take advantage of free trolley rides to and from the stadium.

Kent State University Alumni Association representatives will also be on-hand to welcome current and former students.

Youth choir to salute heroes

WARREN

Warren City Wide Youth Choir will present its second annual “Salute to Warren’s Musical Heroes” honoring world-renowned concert pianist and Warren native, Dana Kristina-Joi Morgan, at 6 p.m. Sunday at North-Mar CMA Church, 3855 E. Market St.

A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Morgan has degrees from Capital and Howard Universities and has performed on stages worldwide from the Apollo Theater in New York, to the French Embassy, to this year’s Congressional Gold Medal ceremony in Washington D.C., where she now resides.

Each year, the choir selects an honoree who has made a significant achievement in music and serves as an inspiration to youth.

Special guests include Everett McCollum, music teacher and educator; Cleo Kennedy, renowned vocalist and former James Cleveland Singer; Darrius Simmons, teen piano prodigy; and piano students from Genesis School of the Creative & Performing Arts in Cleveland directed by Mahoning Valley native, Mark T. Jackson.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for youth age 5-12. Tickets are available at Second Baptist Church, North-Mar Church and online at www.mkt.com/wcwyc.

Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the event.
