Suburban League Championship

CANFIELD

The Maplewood boys and McDonald girls cross country teams decisively won in team play at the Suburban League Championships at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

Maplewood’s finish was 14 points less than runner up Howland. Individually, Boardman’s Chris Butler (16:12.6) led the pack followed by Canfield’s Giovanni Coppoloe (16:26.8) and Howland’s Vince Mauri (16:32.8).

For the girls, McDonald was 46 points lower than runner-up Canfield with a score of 47. The individual winner was Badger’s Miranda Stanhope (18:43).Taking second and third were Blue Devils’ Malina Mitchell (19:17) and Anna Guerra (20:02).

VOLLEYBALL

Girard 25-27-25, Austintown Fitch 23-25-19

GIRARD

Makayla Trebella and Carlie Angelo each had 14 kills to lead Girard (7-5, 4-4) in a straight-set win. Melanie Bakes had 44 assists while Trebella had 17 digs in the win. Gia Direnzo had 32 digs for Fitch (3-10, 2-8). JV: Fitch 25-25, Girard 13-18.

Newton Falls 25-20-25-25, Ursuline 11-25-15-22

YOUNGSTOWN

Izzy Kline had 22 kills and six blocks and Kayla Barreca put up 16 kills for Newton Falls (12-1). Elizabeth Boone score 19 points and dished 39 assists. Ursuline’s Destiny Goodnight had 11 kills, five blocks and 29 digs. Lindsey Bell added six kills, six digs and four blocks.

Valley Christian 25-26-26, Liberty 21-24-24

YOUNGSTOWN

Hannah Stockslager had nine hits while Hope Swiger had six assists in the win for Valley Christian (3-6). Melina Manning had nine hits for Liberty.

Struthers 25-25-25, East 14-13-22

YOUNGSTOWN

Karli Shives and Amanda Zupko each made 14 kills for Struthers. Sophia Jackson dished out 23 assists. Ke’Asia Spikes had seven blocks, six digs and a kill for East. Key’Aria Collins blocked four shots, had three digs and made an assist. Shamya Williams had 12 digs, 16 assists and two aces and Avion Willis had eight digs, three kills and four assists for the Panthers.

Hubbard 25-25-25, Lakeside 16-9-21

HUBBARD

Adria Powell recorded nine digs, six points and 17 kills. Emily Krinos led the team with 34 assists and 13 points to help Hubbard improve to 8-3.

Niles 25-25-25, Warren Harding 8-8-10

WARREN

Myah Busse registered 15 points, nine aces, nine kills and five digs. Taylor Shaner chipped in with 14 points, five aces, three kills and two digs. Jane Parry had 20 assists for Niles (5-6).

United 25-25-25, Springfield 23-21-21

HANOVERTON

Sara Chaszeyka had 11 kills in a loss for Springfield (7-5, 1-1). No statistics for United were reported.

Lisbon 25-25-25, Leetonia 11-15-19.

LISBON

Kimmi Wiggers registered 14 kills and 11 digs, while Hailey McVay had eight kills, five digs, and 11 points for Lisbon. Caitlin Lewis led Leetonia with 22 digs.

Crestview 25-25-25, Jackson-Milton 18-17-10

EAST FAIRFIELD

Mackenzie Daub led Crestview (10-2) with 17 points, six kills and four aces. Taylor Oliver had 10 kills and Emily Emch had six kills, four blocks and two aces. No stats were reported for Jackson-Milton.

Crestview 25-25-25, East Palestine 12-19-19

EAST FAIRFIELD

Emch had 11 kills and blocked a shot for Crestview. Daub added 10 kills, seven points, two blocks and two aces. Taylor Daub had nine kills and two blocks for the Rebels. East Palestine’s Jean Rhodes and Madee Foster each had 13 digs.

Mineral Ridge 25-25-25, Lowellville 16-13-18

LOWELLVILLE

Anna Bodo put up seven kills, seven digs, two blocks and eight aces for Mineral Ridge. Alexa Harkins added five kills, a block, two assists and 11 digs and Heaven Miller had 13 digs and two aces.

Mathews 25-24-25-19-15, Chalker 15-26-23-25-13

SOUTHINGTON

Morgan Williams had 17 kills to lead Mathews (11-2, 7-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference) to a five-set win on the road. Alivia Oulton added 12 kills. Paige Sponsler and Noelle Migliozzi each had 23 digs. Katarina Schubert had 50 assists.

BOYS SOCCER

Hubbard 6 Austintown Fitch 2

AUSTINTOWN

Trailing 2-1 at half, Hubbard went on to score five goals in the second half. Colin Burdette and Bashar Rasoul led the charge each scoring two goals in the contest. Hunter Klaus and Mitch DeSiato led Austintown Fitch with a goal a piece.

Canfield 3, Poland 3

CANFIELD

Poland used three set pieces to tie the game. The Bulldogs’ Marcus Trevis and Noah Cartwright each scored from a penalty kick and Matt Flepski scored from a free kick. Justin Montazeri scored twice and RJ Thomas added a goal for Canfield. Canfield’s Jad Saleh and Poland’s Harrison Walkama each made eight saves.

Lordstown 5, Grand Valley 0

LORDSTOWN

David Ahrens scored twice and Garrett Behner, Michon Peterson and Connor Waldorf scored once for Lordstown (9-1). Goalkeeper Collin Himes made seven saves for the shut out and Grand Valley’s Robert Midgett made 11 saves.
