UPDATE | Allegiant to move flights from Akron to Cleveland

CANTON — Allegiant will move its existing service from the Akron-Canton Airport to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

The announcement comes a couple of months after Spirit Airlines, another low-cost airline, announced it would bring service to Akron-Canton.

Flights will move from Akron-Canton Airport to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Feb. 15, 2017. Passengers with existing reservations on or after Feb. 15, 2017 from Akron-Canton Airport can be re-accommodated from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport or receive a full refund.

Allegiant still operates as the only commercial airliner at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.

Those flights being another 20 miles away from Youngstown should help boost Allegiant flights in Youngstown, said Dan Dickten, aviation director at the Youngstown Warren Regional Airport.

In addition to the move, the company will offer area travelers four new nonstop routes to vacation destinations this winter: Jacksonville, Fla. via the Jacksonville International Airport; Austin, Texas via the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport; New Orleans via the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport; and Phoenix via the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
