Artist to lecture

YOUNGSTOWN

Amber Kempthorn will deliver a guest artist lecture and gallery talk at 1 p.m. Sept. 26 in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery on the second floor of Bliss Hall, on the Youngstown State University campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Kempthorn’s drawings are made with a combination of processes. The ground is created by working sticks of pastel into the paper’s surface, and the narrative and landscapes are constructed through traditional rendering, airbrushing, stencils and collage. The collage elements are selected from her collection of retired library books, which characteristically reflect the period of printed matter produced from the 1920s to the 1960s.
