Boardman Invitational

BOARDMAN

Boardman High School hosted the Spartan Invitational on Saturday, which brought in 7,000 high school and middle school runners from across Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Among the local runners, Western Reserve’s Ashleigh Rowley (19:14.8) had the best finish, taking second among Division III runners. She was two seconds behind Division III winner Katie Engle of Gilmour Academy. In team play, McDonald’s girls team took second and had two top 10 finishers in Malina Mitchell (19:48.5) and Anna Guerra (20:01.1). Mitchell and Guerra took 7th and 9th, respectively. East Palestine’s Alexis Cunningham (20:09.1) finished in 10th.

In Division II girls, Poland’s Maggie Sebest (19:24.1) took fourth.

On the boys side, Maplewood was the best among Division III teams and had three runners record top 10 finishes. Jake Hall (16:45.3) was the best local male runner as he finished in fourth. Nick Cowger (16:50.2) took 7th and Ethan Sparks (16:53.7) took 9th.

The overall winners of the Invitational were Mentor’s Matthew Bull (15:51.9) for the boys and Brunswick’s Felicia Pasadyn (18:52.0) for the girls.

North Canton Hoover 7, Austintown Fitch 2

Hunter Klaus and Trevor Hykes scored for the Falcons. JV: Hoover 2-0.

Howland 4, Champion 0

HOWLAND

Braden Elsea, Christopher Tvaroch, Jonah Weisman and David Schwartz all scored for Howland (8-0-1). Christian Nogay had two assists for the Tigers.

GIRLS SOCCER

Howland 5, Champion 0

HOWLAND

Sara Ciletti scord two goals to lead the Tigers (5-2-0). Bella Merlo, Na’Pier Ramsey and Gabby Darrin scored the other goals. Leah Pollifrone assisted on two goals and Kaitlyn Chambers had one. Goalkeepers Kamryn Buckley and Ariel Takat teamed up for the shutout. For the Golden Flashes (5-3-0), Molly Williams made four saves.

Ursuline 2, United 0

YOUNGSTOWN

Abby Price and Taylor Tomlinson each scored a goal in the second half for Ursuline. Jen Woodford and Taylor Tomlinson each dished out an assist. Irish goaltender Jordyn Keneally made two saves and her United counterpart, Haleigh Anderson, stopped 15 shots.

Grand Valley 5, Maplewood 1

MECCA

Alyssa Clason scored four goals and Taylor Caraway netted the other for Grand Valley. Caraway, Genesis Foltz, Emily D’Amico and Ella Crum had assists while goalkeeper Caitlyn Stafford made three saves. For the Rockets, Bella Kellar scored the goal and Jaycee Butcher made seven saves.

VOLLEYBALL

Canfield 25-25-25, Roosevelt 11-19-15

CANFIELD

Maddy Johns had 11 kills for Canfield and Morgan Cleevely had eight digs in the straight-set win.

Howland 25-25-25, Cardinal Mooney 16-10-12

YOUNGSTOWN

Cassie Murcko put up 14 kills for Howland and Faith Grant added 10 kills and three blocks at the net. Kathryn Summerfield dished out 18 assists, Julia Gray dug 13 balls and Haley Vandergrft scored 15 points. Danni Harigan recorded six service aces. No stats were reported for Mooney.

Wellsville 25-25-25, Heartland Christian 14-19-7

WELLSVILLE

Bonnie Flynn had 18 kills and 33 digs for Heartland Christian. No statistics for Wellsville were reported.
