YOUNGSTOWN

The president/chief executive officer of Salem Regional Medical Center is the newest Youngstown State University trustee.

Gov. John Kasich appointed Dr. Anita Hackstedde of Columbiana, effective Friday. Her term runs until April 30, 2021.

It’s the unexpired term of retired businessman James B. Greene of Canfield, who died earlier this year. Greene had been appointed in 2012.

A Niles native, Dr. Hackstedde graduated from John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in Warren, before enrolling at YSU where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine.

“This is my way of giving back to the university I love that allowed me to get to where I am today,” she said.

The mother of two OSU students, Dr. Hackstedde is interested in ways to make college more affordable and to lessen the debt incurred by students and ways to help YSU students find jobs after graduation.

Dr. Hackstedde is board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics. She completed her residency at Akron General Medical Center/Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron.
