The first week of school came to an end for Robinwood Lane Elementary School students on Sept. 1.
Kindergarten students spent their first week at Robinwood adjusting to a new school, while the students in fourth grade prepared to spend their final year at a school many of them have been attending since they were in kindergarten.
The kindergarten students had a phase-in week, so they only went twice in a week. A group of students would go in Monday, while new groups went on Tuesday and Wednesday before all of the students came on Thursday. This allowed the students to adapt to a new setting and environment.
Students participated in numerous activities throughout the week that allowed them to get to know each other and their teachers. Robinwood gym teacher Jen Flores taught the fourth-grade students what companionship meant during gym class. She had them play a game in which they tossed a ball to each other in a pattern and called out their classmate’s name before throwing it to them,
Jan Zorman, fourth-grade reading teacher, is having her class participate in a new reading program. During the week the students will be working on their reading in various ways. Every morning Zorman reads part of a book to the students as a group, students will then read on their own and they will also participate in guided reading in small groups.
The teachers and Principal Don Robinson are happy to have the students back at school after what seemed to be a quick summer break. Many of the students and teachers are eager to begin new lessons and create new relationships.
