VIENNA
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has approved a permit allowing the owners of a new injection well just south of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport to begin commercial operations Oct. 8.
The Sept. 8 approval by Richard Simmers, chief of the ODNR Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, means KTCA Holdings LLC of Oklahoma City. will be allowed to bring injection of oilfield waste back to Vienna Township for the first time since an injection-well accident in April 2015 shut down that operation.
That well site, owned by Kleese Development Associates, remains closed. KDA also drilled the new well but transferred it to KTCA in October 2015.
The permit allows KTCA to begin operatons Oct. 8, though the permit approval can be appealed to the Ohio Oil and Gas Commission or common pleas court.
Vienna Township Trustee Phil Pegg said the trustees, county commissioners and police and fire departments have written opposition letters to the operation.
His two biggest concerns about the operation are truck traffic on state Route 193 and seismic activity that such facilities can cause, he said.
