Sanders, Warren to campaign in Ohio this weekend

U.S. Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., two of the Senate’s leading liberals, will campaign this weekend in northeast Ohio in support of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Neither has stops scheduled in the Mahoning Valley.

Warren will stop in Columbus on Saturday and in Cleveland on Sunday. The Clinton campaign announcement states Warren will also campaign for ex-Gov. Ted Strickland, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

Warren will emphasize Clinton’s plans to make free community college and debt-free college available to all Americans, while urging Ohioans to register to vote ahead of the October 11 deadline, according to the Clinton campaign.

Sanders, who lost the Democratic nomination to Clinton, is campaigning in Canton, Kent and Akron on Saturday.

Sanders will emphasize Clinton’s plans to support millennials, including making free community college and debt-free college available to all Americans, protecting access to health care for young Americans, reforming our immigration system, raising the minimum wage and protecting our climate, according to the Clinton campaign.

Ohio is considered a key battleground state in the presidential election with polls showing a tight race between Clinton and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
