On I-680, car hits van carrying inmates

YOUNGSTOWN

Five passengers in a van driven by a member of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office were treated for minor injuries Wednesday after the Ohio State Highway Patrol said a car collided with the van about 1:30 p.m. on Interstate 680 North.

Reports said the van, traveling west and carrying inmates doing community service driven by Sgt. James Toulville, 49, collided with a car also driving west driven by Peter Green, 63, of Youngstown.

A news release from the patrol said Toulville also was slightly injured but refused treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.

Green was cited for failure to keep an assured clear distance.

3 are arraigned on crack-cocaine charges

Three people arraigned Wednesday in municipal court on possession of crack-cocaine charges each had bonds of $5,000 set for them.

Michael Glenellen, 26, of Lakeside Avenue, and Jonathan Congelio, 27, of Canfield, were both arrested after a car Congelio was driving was pulled over about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of West Evergreen Avenue for an improper turn.

Reports said Congelio had a bag of suspected crack cocaine on his seat, and there was a rock of suspected crack cocaine inside a pouch on the passenger’s side door next to where Glenellen was sitting.

About 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, Kristine Johnson, 43, of Verona Avenue, was arrested after a car she was driving failed to stop for a stop sign at Fairgreen and Fifth avenues.

Police found a rock of suspected crack cocaine in her purse, reports said.

Man lacked license to sell minnows

YOUNGSTOWN

A Scioto Avenue man pleaded no contest Wednesday and was fined slightly more than $100 after being found guilty of selling minnows without a license.

McCoy Hayes, 75, was cited Aug. 10 by an officer for the Ohio Division of Natural Resources for not having a license to sell them.

Prosecutors said Hayes was visited several times by ODNR personnel and warned to get a license before he finally received one.

Hayes has since gotten a license, which costs about $40.

Student finds body of man behind home

WARREN

A student riding his bicycle to Warren G. Harding High School on Wednesday found the body of a man, 46, on the steps behind a home in the 100 block of Mulberry Street Northwest.

The man was identified as Stephen M. Luebking of Tod Avenue Southwest. Police said it appears the man suffered a fall.

The student, 18, of Delaware Avenue Northwest, called police, who found the body and talked to people nearby who knew Luebking and said he had multiple sclerosis and was unsteady on his feet.
