Pedestrian hit

WARREN

A pedestrian hit by a vehicle at about 9 p.m. Tuesday on Diehl South and Park roads in Warren Township was transported by helicopter to an unknown hospital for treatment. Neither the extent of injuries or victim’s identity were known late Tuesday. The Lordstown Police Department is investigating.

Bank-robbery charges

CLEVELAND

A federal grand jury has indicted Rickie Gonzalez, 51, of Campbell, and Michael Zarlingo, 55, of Struthers, on charges of bank robbery. The indictment alleges that on or about April 18, Gonzalez robbed a Huntington Bank in Boardman, and on or about April 28, Zarlingo and Gonzalez robbed a PNC Bank in Youngstown. The case was investigated by the FBI and its Violent Crimes Task Force and Youngstown, Boardman and Hubbard police, and it is being prosecuted by Jason M. Katz, a Youngstown-based assistant U.S. attorney.

Brian Bellard gets more than 10 years

AKRON

A Youngstown man was sentenced Tuesday to more than 10 years in prison for firearms violations, the U.S. attorney said.

Brian K. Bellard, 43, was arrested Oct. 16, 2015, after Youngstown police responded to a call about an armed man arguing with people outside Eastside Civic Center. Police found Bellard with a .40-caliber pistol and ammunition, according to court documents. He was forbidden from possessing guns because of previous felony convictions dating back to 1992, including felonious assault and domestic violence convictions, the documents said.

Having pleaded guilty last year to being a felon in possession of a firearm, he was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge John R. Adams to 125 months in federal prison. The case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Youngstown police.

Girard block party

The city will host a Better Block Party from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on West Liberty Street. The party will feature family-friendly activities, temporary streetscapes and pop-up businesses. The event is made possible by a grant from the William Swanston Charitable Foundation and presented in conjunction with the Regional Chamber and Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership.

Cops: Man tried to strangle wife

AUSTINTOWN

Officers arrested a 68-year-old man accused of trying to strangle his 85-year-old wife with a cellphone cord in their home.

According to a police report, Joseph Gionfriddo of Edgehill Avenue was accused by his wife Sunday afternoon of having an affair.

After an argument broke out, he took his cellphone cord, placed it around her neck and told her he was going to kill her, reports said. He is charged with domestic violence and is in the Mahoning County jail.
