HOWLAND

A trooper from the Warren Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol suffered minor injuries in a three-vehicle crash while performing a traffic stop at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday on the state Route 82 westbound exit ramp to East Market Street in Howland Township. Injured was Sgt. Daniel Jesse who was released after treatment at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

According to the OSHP, Jesse had made a traffic stop of Jamie Buckner, 26, of Leavittsburg, when a car driven by Jimmie Ray Stella Jr., 36, of Warren, struck the rear of the patrol car pushing it into Buckner’s vehicle. Buckner sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. All three vehicles received major damage.

Stella was charged with operating a vehicle impaired and failure to move over for a public safety vehicle. He is being held in Trumbull County Jail.

Two killed in crash

RAVENNA

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Ravenna Post is investigating a three-vehicle crash in which two people were killed and three others suffered non-life threatening injuries. The crash occurred Saturday on state Route 14 in Ravenna Township.

The OSHP reported that a southbound military Humvee driven by Jeremy R. Taylor, 20, of University Heights, went left of center side-swiping a northbound car driven by Lisa M. Mancini, 48, of Ravenna Township. The Humvee then struck a northbound sedan head-on killing the driver, Bryan M. Bargar, 34, and his passenger, Wyatt Bentley, 6, of Berea Township. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Taylor and two passengers in the Humvee were taken to University Hospital for treatment.

No charges have been filed in connection with the crash.

Ride with officials

CHAMPION

The date for the second annual Trumbull County Ride With The Commissioners has been changed. It will now take place at 9 a.m. Oct. 1 with refreshments at the Sunside Trailhead, 547 Center St. East (state Route 305).

At 10 a.m., riders and the county commissioners will depart south to ride the Paul E. Heltzel portion of the Western Reserve Greenway, which is about a 7-mile ride.
