Browns: RG3 out for 'extended period'

— The Cleveland Browns announced today that quarterback Robert Griffin III will miss a significant period of time with a shoulder injury suffered in Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Griffin took a hard hit near the sideline late in the Browns' 29-10 defeat, but finished the game after a spirited discussion with team officials. But Griffin clearly was in pain. He dropped to his knee after a play and was seen favoring his left shoulder and arm.

The Browns announced that medical tests Sunday night and Monday morning revealed a fractured coracoid bone in Griffin's left shoulder. He has been placed in injured reserve.

The Browns said in a statement that surgery is not required at this time and Griffin’s left shoulder will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks.
