2 injured, 1 suspect killed outside Kansas Walmart
SHAWNEE, Kan.
Two people were critically injured and a good Samaritan killed a suspect during a confrontation in the parking lot of a suburban Kansas City Wal-Mart.
Police said the incident Sunday afternoon in Shawnee began when two suspects hit a woman in the head from behind as she was putting her child in her car.
Shawnee police Maj. Dan Tennis says a person in the parking lot who tried to help was shot several times. Another good Samaritan then shot one of the suspects, who died at the scene.
The second suspect fled but was caught near the store.
The female victim and the other person who was shot were both hospitalized in critical condition.
Tennis said a motive for the initial attack on the woman is not yet clear.
Bus driver killed, others injured in crash at airport
DENVER
A school bus driver was killed Sunday and several others were seriously injured after the bus veered off a roadway Denver International Airport and crashed into a concrete wall, police said.
The female driver died at the scene, police spokesman John White said. Her identity has not been released.
The crash of the Adams 12 Five Star Schools district bus took place at 4:08 p.m., airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said.
An estimated 17 to 20 passengers were taken to nearby hospitals, authorities said. Officials at Denver Health tell the KUSA TV station that they have five patients: two are in critical condition, two are in serious condition and one is in fair condition.
KUSA reports that the bus is from Legacy High School, which is in Broomfield and is part of Adams 12 Five Star Schools. The Denver Post reports that the football team from Legacy played Chino High School on Friday night in California.
Alexis Arquette, transgender actress, dies at 47
LOS ANGELES
Alexis Arquette, the transgender character actress and sibling of actors David, Rosanna, Richmond and Patricia Arquette, died early Sunday morning in Los Angeles. She was 47 and surrounded by family who serenaded her with David Bowie’s “Starman,” her siblings said in a statement Sunday.
“Alexis was a brilliant artist and painter, a singer, an entertainer and an actor,” her brothers and sisters said. “We learned what real bravery is through watching her journey of living as a trans woman. We came to discover the one truth — that love is everything.”
Alexis was born Robert Arquette in Los Angeles in 1969, and she was a performer from a young age, appearing in a music video for The Tubes’ “She’s a Beauty” at age 12 and the occasional other projects.
Mansion resembling White House to be sold at auction
McLEAN, Va.
A northern Virginia mansion that resembles the White House is going up for auction.
The Federal-style mansion was built in 1989 and has a rounded portico similar to the one on the southern facade of the White House.
WTOP-FM reports that the 12,500-square-foot, six-bedroom home goes on auction next month.
Jeff Stein, a partner with real estate auction firm Tranzon Fox, says he expects opening bids in the $3 million range. He calls it the “White House on Georgetown Pike.”
