‘Evening in Spain’ at Soap Gallery

YOUNGSTOWN

The Soap Gallery and Opera Western Reserve are co-sponsoring “An Evening in Spain: A Musical and Artistic Experience” at 6 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 117 S. Champion St., downtown.

The evening will feature live artistic creation, musical performances by Young Artists of OWR, tapas, and a cash bar with beer, wine and sangria.

In advance of OWR’s Nov. 11 production of Bizet’s “Carmen,” the evening will bring together supporters of art and music, developing new audiences for both Soap’s monthly art exhibits and OWR’s annual live opera performances.

Soloists will perform arias from “Carmen” and other Spanish-themed music, and artists will be live-painting a Spanish landscape and an abstract on the theme of “Carmen.” The artwork will be auctioned off at the completion of the event.

Tickets are $35 and are available by calling 330-480-0693. The gallery’s September show, “Flickr Friends,” featuring works by photographers around the world who become friends on Flickr, will be on exhibit.
