SENIOR SIDELIGHTS
Blessed Sacrament Parish, 3020 Reeves Road NE, Warren, invites seniors and their families to an informational lunch/speaker event at noon Wednesday. Debbie Zador, director of Warren S.C.O.P.E. and nurse in our community for more than 20 years, will present information about components of Medicare. Have questions ready about Medicare, understanding what you have, how to sort out Medicare options, Medicare Part D and annual open enrollment, identity theft, benefits of remaining in your own home, importance of having paperwork in order and more. This session also is open to adult children who may be considering having ‘The Conversation’ with their adult parents about important legal and medical paperwork, financials and care in advanced years. A light lunch will be provided by the All Seasons 55 and Over group of the parish. Call the parish office 330-372-2215 for reservations.
Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., is offering the following programs: Thursday, the center will offer mammograms. Appointments must be made in advance. A van will be at the center from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Insurance will be accepted, those with no insurance will be eligible for financial assistance. Friday, the free Lunch and Learn program will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The topic will be “Heart Disease.” The speaker will from the Area Agency on Aging. The program is sponsored by Gateway Health. All are welcome. Registration is required by calling the center. Sept. 27 will be a trip to Presque Isle Casino. The cost is $22 with $25 in free slot play. The bus will leave Niles at 8 a.m. Return will be approximately 4:30 or 5 p.m. Payment must be made with reservation. Sept. 29 flu shots will be available at the center from 1 to 3 p.m. with Walgreens Pharmacy for those insured with Medicare or other insurance. The cash price is $22. Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following: Monday, diabetic empowerment education program at 1 p.m.; Tuesday, computer class at 9 and 11 a.m., brush, knife and needle club at 10, beginner and intermediate duplicate bridge at noon, caregiver support group at 2 p.m. and Drums Alive at 2:30; Wednesday, watercolors at 10 a.m., tap class at noon, 500 bid card club at 1 p.m. and line dancing at 1:30; Thursday, woodcarvers at 9 a.m., Boardman Fun Day at Boardman Park at 10, multi media art and socialization at noon, Texas Hold’em (looking for players) at 2; and Friday, Youngstown Fun Day at Park Vista Retirement Community at 10 a.m., card and board games at noon, ROM exercise at 1 p.m. and color expressions for stress and relaxation at 2.
