The city had a large waterline failure Thursday on South Meridian Road that affected some water customers on the West Side.

Because of the low pressure that resulted, the water department is asking certain customers to boil their water for drinking and cooking until further notice.

The alert is for residents on Wilshire Drive between Bears Den Road and Quentin Drive; on South Meridian between Burkey and Decamp roads; and on Freemont Avenue, and Sharlene and Quentin drives.

Drug charges

YOUNGSTOWN

Members of the police department’s vice squad served search warrants Wednesday on the North and West sides investigating suspected drug activity.

About 5:30 p.m. at a home in the 2000 block of Elm Street, two syringes, a crack pipe, scale and security camera were found. Three people were cited on misdemeanor drug charges.

About 6:45 p.m., officers served a warrant at a North Osborn Avenue home. Inside the home, police found $965 cash, suspected heroin, suspected marijuana and two marijuana grinders.

Capricia Williams, 31, was arrested on felony drug charges after she drove away as police pulled up to the home. Inside the car, police found a bag of suspected crack cocaine, reports said. She was charged for the drugs that were in the car and in the house.

Cyclist injured

COITSVILLE

An elderly man has been hospitalized after a minivan hit his bike Thursday morning near state Route 616 across the street from Campbell Elementary School, Coitsville police said.

An officer described the man’s injuries as not life-threatening.

Charges of failure to yield and failure to stop at a stop sign are pending against the bicyclist, Coitsville police said.

Road closings set

YOUNGSTOWN

There will be multiple closings of roads to motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians throughout Mill Creek Park due to Saturday’s YMCA Community Cup and Sunday’s Green Cathedral Half-Marathon and 5K.

These park drives will be closed from about 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday: West Glacier, West, Bears Den, New Cross, Cross, West Cohasset, High, Chestnut Hill, East Park, Valley, East Glacier, Memorial Hill and Robinson Hill drives.

These roads will be closed from about 6 a.m. to noon Sunday: Bears Den, Lily Pond, West, West Glacier, Robinson Hill, East Glacier, Memorial Hill, East Cohasset, East Park, Valley, Old Mill, East Newport, Kreider’s Entrance, West Newport, Chestnut Hill, High and West Cohasset drives.

Break-in probed

Township police are investigating a breaking and entering incident Wednesday at Maggie’s Magic Muffins.

An employee arrived at the store on Southern Boulevard at 6:30 a.m. to find the cash register was pried open with $100 missing.

Police found no signs of forced entry and no other items missing.
