The Poland Seminary High School band put on a performance for the elementary school students on Aug. 29 at the high school football stadium.
Students from the elementary schools had the opportunity to watch the marching band put on a short performance at the beginning of the school day. The band played different video game theme songs, the Poland fight song and a few more for the students.
The band plays under the direction of Nick Olesko.
To celebrate the popular “Pokemon GO” game, the band students played the Pokemon theme song while someone dressed as Pikachu made their way around the field. The band also played the “Mario” theme song, and during the song the band members formed shapes of Mario jumping on mushrooms like in the video game.
The performance for the younger students allowed the band members to practice for the band night at Canfield High School the next day.
At the end of the performance, some of the band members brought their instruments into the stands to show the younger students and answers any questions about being in band. The elementary students had the opportunity to touch the instruments and look at them closely.
The students learned about music and different types of instruments. The performance gave the students a little break outside of the classroom while still getting an education.
