Boardman band night at stadium

BOARDMAN

Boardman Band Night will take place Saturday at 7 p.m. in the new Boardman Stadium on the high school campus. Participating high school bands include Springfield, West Branch, Lowellville, Austintown, Canfield, Howland and the Boardman Spartan Marching Band. Admission is $5 ($3 for students; free for senior citizens).

The opening marching drill will be to The Doors’ 1968 hit “Touch Me,” with two students performing Curtis Amy’s original saxophone solo.

The “features” portion of the program will begin with the Spartan Sweethearts dancing to “Gonna Make You Sweat” by C+C Music Factory. The classic rock returns for the Spartan Silks feature to the Who’s “Baba O’Riley,” which includes some special marching effects by the band.

The BSMB’s tradition of themed closing routines continues with a salute to the work of Italian filmmaker Sergio Leone and composer Ennio Morricone. The band is under the direction of Thomas M. Ruggieri, Timothy Tuite and Michael Shevock. Also on staff are Tom Porter, Katie Brown and Kyle O’Donnell as instructors of the Sweethearts, Silks and Drumline.

Antiques in Woods is this weekend

COLUMBIANA

Antiques in the Woods, a unique antique show, will be Saturday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the Shaker Woods grounds, 44337 County Line Road, one mile north of the intersection of state Route 14.

More than 80 of the country’s top antique and collectible dealers will offer a wide selection of antique furniture, linens, glassware, collector items and more.

The New Silver Eagle Band will perform both days, and there also will be a Civil War encampment and tractor pulls. A classic car and truck show is set for Sunday.

Admission is $6 (free for children 12 and under). Children’s strollers are not recommended. Go to antiquesinthewoods.com.
