Manziel back to school at Texas A&M
Manziel back to school at Texas A&M
dallas
Former Cleveland quarterback Johnny Manziel has re-enrolled at Texas A&M after his NFL career was derailed by a series of off-field incidents that included a domestic violence charge still pending in court.
A school spokesman confirmed Manziel’s enrollment Monday, saying he couldn’t provide other details because of student privacy laws.
Manziel played two seasons for the Aggies and was the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy in 2012. He turned pro after his redshirt sophomore season but had two disappointing seasons after the Browns drafted him in the first round in 2014. Cleveland released him in March.
A hearing in the 23-year-old Manziel’s domestic violence case in Dallas is set for Sept. 15.

Wentz to get opening week start for Eagles
philadelphia
The Carson Wentz Era is now for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Wentz will start Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns despite missing the final three preseason games after injuring his ribs in the opener.
Coach Doug Pederson made the announcement Monday, two days after the Eagles traded Sam Bradford to the Vikings for a 2017 first-round pick and a 2018 conditional fourth-round pick.
“Everybody feels like this kid is ready to go,” Pederson said. “We drafted him to take on the reins. It’s something now that we’re prepared to do. He’s such a special guy. This stage not too big for him.”
The Eagles traded up twice in the draft to select Wentz at No. 2 overall.
Bosa sits out more workouts with injury
san diego
It was a familiar scene at Monday’s San Diego Chargers practice: Joey Bosa wasn’t working.
Bosa, who missed 31 days and the preseason because of a contract dispute, didn’t participate in the workout.
The Chargers began preparations for Sunday’s opener against the Kansas City Chiefs without their top draft pick. Bosa, the third overall selection, watched the session with his left leg wrapped and he walked with a slight limp.
“He was a little tight today, so we decided to hold him out,” coach Mike McCoy said. “We are going take it a day at a time and it’s all part of the process we are going to go through. When he is ready to participate and be in game shape, he will be out there ready to play.”
While the injury isn’t considered serious, it calls into question Bosa’s status for Sunday.
But McCoy said it was the normal ‘bumps and bruises” that Bosa, a defensive end, is going through.
Rapinoe joins Kapernick in kneeling
chicago
U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe knelt during the national anthem Sunday night before the Seattle Reign’s game against the Chicago Red Stars “in a little nod” to NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the national anthem to protest racial injustice and minority oppression came to public notice when he remained seated on the bench before a preseason game against Green Bay. On Thursday night in San Diego, he and safety Eric Reid knelt during the anthem before a game against the Chargers.
“It was very intentional,” Rapinoe told American Soccer Now after Seattle’s 2-2 tie in the National Women’s Soccer League game. “It was a little nod to Kaepernick and everything that he’s standing for right now. I think it’s actually pretty disgusting the way he was treated and the way that a lot of the media has covered it and made it about something that it absolutely isn’t. We need to have a more thoughtful, two-sided conversation about racial issues in this country.”
