City cop released

A city police officer who was taken to the burn unit at Akron Children’s Hospital after he responded to a fatal accident has been released.
Detective Sgt. William Ward, a patrol supervisor on midnight turn, was burned after responding about 2:30 a.m. Sunday to an accident at Bennington Avenue and McGuffey Road, which killed a man.
The car had struck a utility pole and was sheared in half. The driver of the car has not yet been identified, but Ward was shocked during the incident.
Police Chief Robin Lees confirmed Monday evening Ward was released from the hospital earlier that day. Details on how Ward was injured or the extent of his injuries have not yet been released.
Ambulance stolen

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers arrested a man after a report that he stole an ambulance from a gas station in Liberty.
Officials said an unnamed man stole a Lifefleet ambulance from Speedway, 4210 Belmont Ave., Liberty, around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Lifefleet called officials so they could track the vehicle, which traveled on state Route 711 to Interstate 680. After trying a traffic stop, officials said troopers chased the vehicle for two miles, stopping it on Sheridan Road off Midlothian Boulevard. They apprehended the suspect without incident.

The Core Team of Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., will sponsor a senior services seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Any Given Child program information
WARREN
Students Motivated by the Arts, a Youngstown community arts school, will release information at 10 a.m. Sept. 23 on Warren City Schools’ Any Given Child initiative that will be implemented this school year in kindergarten to eighth grade.
The meeting will take place at Willard Pre-kindergarten through Grade 8 School, 2020 Willard Ave. SE. It is open to the public.
SMARTS is lead local organization for the Washington, D.C.-based John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts program. Any Given Child uses arts programs in the schools and area arts organizations to integrate the arts throughout the curriculum. Warren is the smallest of the 20 cities selected by the Kennedy Center.
