Trump travels to Youngstown Warren Regional Airport today
VIENNA
Republican Party presidential nominee Donald Trump is scheduled to fly into the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport sometime today, airport Aviation Director Dan Dickten told 21 WFMJ TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, Sunday night.
The aviation chief confirmed that Trump is scheduled to fly into the Mahoning Valley airport in Vienna sometime today.
Dickten said airport officials do not have a specific time for Trump’s arrival.
Mark Munroe, chairman of the Mahoning County Republican Party, said Sunday night it will just be a game of wait and see.
“We’ve been optimistic for the past couple of days,” he said. “It was likely he would come, but [we received] no confirmation from his campaign – no time or when or where he is going to do it.”
Munroe said he expects the visit to take place today at the Canfield Fair.
DEMOCRATS PLAN EVENT
On Sunday, the campaign of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton announced a press conference this morning at the fair and mirrored Munroe’s expectation of Trump’s visit.
The Clinton backers, who will speak at the county Democratic Party tent at the fair, plan to discuss “Trump’s record of outsourcing his products to countries to nearly a dozen countries outside the United States.”
“They will contrast Hillary Clinton’s plans to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top, with Donald Trump’s agenda that would benefit wealthy people like himself and his family while costing the Ohio economy as many as 123,000 jobs,” according to the email.
Trump last visited the Mahoning Valley on Aug. 15 for an invitation-only event at Youngstown State University.
Vice President Joe Biden visited the fair Friday after a rally at the United Auto Workers Local 1714 union hall in support of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Clinton is expected to attend the 11th Congressional District Community Caucus Labor Day Festival in Cleveland today.
National AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni, Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman David Betras and local labor union members will speak at 10:30 a.m. today on Republican presidential nominee Trump’s trade record and tax plan at the tent.
