City officials tear up toddler’s littering citation

WASHINGTON

City officials in Washington are tearing up a littering citation issued to a toddler.

The Washington Post reported that 2-year-old Harper Westover received a “Notice of Violation” on Thursday from the Department of Public Works, with a $75 fine.

Her mom, attorney Theresa Westover, also received a citation. She called a solid-waste inspector who told her a city worker had found unopened envelopes with her name and Harper’s name in an alley.

Westover says the inspector refused to rescind Harper’s ticket, even amid assurances that they’re not a family of litterbugs. The case drew ridicule after Westover’s husband, Chuck, posted about it online.

A Public Works official stopped by the family’s home Friday just as Theresa Westover was about to do a TV interview. He said he would drop both tickets.

Inmates called to pick up fake money by road

PONTOTOC, Miss.

Some Mississippi inmates were picking peas in a garden when they got a call to clean up money scattered along a roadside.

It seemed too good to be true – and it was.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported that the fake currency, found Saturday, was made for use in movies. One of the $100 bills was emblazoned with the words “For Motion Picture Use Only.”

Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask said it appears someone was hauling theater equipment because a movie reel also was tossed by the road. Deputies were counting the funny money, and an investigation continues.

20 stung, 3 taken to hospital in bee attack

CERRITOS, Calif.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said a swarm of bees at a suburban park attacked, stinging more than 20 people and sending three to the hospital.

Dispatching supervisor Bernard Peters said Sunday that the attack happened Saturday evening at Cerritos Regional Park, about 20 miles south of Los Angeles.

Witnesses told KCBS-TV that there were thousands of bees chasing hundreds of people and that the insects seemed to be attacking people with long hair.

Peters said the three people taken to the hospital are expected to be OK and that the bees left the park within an hour of the attack.
