National labor leader counters Trump promises at fair event
CANFIELD
Cheers and boos of agreement were heard by fair-goers walking past the Mahoning County Democratic Booth this morning.
With Donald Trump supporters holding their anti-Hillary Clinton signs in the crowd, Clinton supporters spoke openly about their feelings on the rogue GOP candidate’s Canfield Fair appearance on Labor Day.
“It’s an insult to anyone in labor, that Donald Trump would come into the Mahoning Valley on Labor Day,” said David Betras, Mahoning County Democratic Party chairman.
Betras was “glad to engage” supporters of the Republican presidential nominee carrying signs reading “ Hillary Clinton for Prison” and “Lock Her Up.”
“We are here to show our support for Donald Trump,” said Mike Young of Berlin Center, who had volunteered all week at the Mahoning County Republican Party booth. “We don’t want to cause any trouble.”
The main speaker of the event, Rich Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations), took on Trump’s character and his business practices.
