Pennsylvania state employee UW campaign begins Tuesday

Staff report

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Pennsylvania will kick off the 2016 State Employee Campaign Appeal to benefit the United Way on Tuesday.

Employees from across Pennsylvania selected a theme of “One Team, One Commonwealth.” The employees have an opportunity to support more than 1.000 charities internationally to make a difference in our world.

Last year, the employees raised more than $3 million. The goal this year is set at $3,170,000. Gov. Tom Wolf supports the SECA Campaign by donating his entire salary to support the state’s United Ways.

The United Way of Lawrence County serves as manager for the SECA Campaign, which is the local coordinating agency.

Pennsylvania, through the state’s Service Employees International Union, releases employees to help coordinate this campaign.

This year, Dave Miller, who is employed by the Department of Human Services, will serve as the loaned labor leader to assist with the Lawrence County state agencies.

Miller is released from employment from his job from Aug. 22 to Oct. 28 to coordinate this effort.
