Earns Eagle Award

Joshua Westhead, son of George Westhead and Joseph and Stephanie Sanders, earned his Eagle Scout Award as a member of Troop 105, chartered to First Federated Church.

Westhead, of North Jackson, began his scouting career in second grade, spending his first year in Cub Scouts in Mineral Ridge Pack 84. He then joined North Jackson Cub Pack 105 and finally Troop 105 in 2010. Scoutmaster is Ted Kegley.

He has earned 27 merit badges. His current troop position is adult leader. Previous positions include junior assistant scoutmaster, senior patrol leader, patrol leader and assistant patrol leader.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Westhead renovated the food pantry at First Federated Church in North Jackson. He constructed 12 rolling platforms for the pantry, replacing the pallets formerly used there. The rotating platforms make it easier for volunteers to stock food. In addition, Westhead made signs labeling the sections of food stock.

This past summer, he served as adult leader at Beaumont Scout Reservation. He also volunteered for four years at vacation Bible school at First Federated Church.

Westhead is a freshman at Youngstown State University, where he majors in electrical and computer engineering. He graduated with an honors diploma from Jackson-Milton High School in June. In high school, Westhead participated in marching and concert band and the Spanish, Key and Ski clubs.

He is a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and frequently attends St. Paul Monastery.
