Course offered in social justice ministry
YOUNGSTOWN
The Office of Lay Ministry Formation in the Diocese of Youngstown is offering the course “Service with Christ: A Door to Mercy Through Service Learning” for those interested or involved in social justice ministry themselves or with the youths and young adults they serve. The call of all the baptized to serve others helps us to be a presence of God’s love and mercy to the world. Service-learning is a way to better incorporate faith and learning into service experiences.
Sessions will be from 7 to 9 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month, September through May, at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist Social Hall in Canton. Participants are also asked to commit to at least one year of weekly/biweekly service with an approved social service agency.
The course sessions will be an opportunity to pray in community and learn more about and apply the themes of Catholic social teaching. Principles and practices of service-learning will be shared to empower participants to better incorporate service experiences into catechetical programs at the parish. This course is beneficial for Confirmation and RCIA teams and those working in social justice ministries.
