Struthers celebrates 100 years of football

Struthers High School will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of its football program before a home game today versus Toledo Scott.

A tailgate celebration in the Euclid Avenue parking lot begins 4:15 p.m. and is sold out at 400 tickets. Tickets, available for $6, include food from Donavito’s Italian Grille and admission to the 7 p.m. game.

Proceeds benefit the Struthers Gridiron Club.

The football program will honor its Wildcat alumni with a 6:15 ceremony at the stadium, 111 Euclid Ave.

Honorees will include Mayor Terry Stocker, who belongs to a family with three living generations of Struthers football players, and Laddie Fedor for whom the “Laddie J. Fedor” football field is named. A member of the class of 1947, Fedor is believed to be the oldest living Struthers football alum. Fedor served in World War II before becoming a teacher, principal and eventually a superintendent for the school district.

Struthers launched its program in 1916. In 1930, it saw its first undefeated team.
