Youngstown's labor museum plans to join celebration

The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor, 151 W. Wood St., will be part of a statewide celebration to honor the Historic Preservation Act.

Ohio History Connection celebrates the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act with Ohio Open Doors from Sept. 9-18. Ohio Open Doors is a statewide effort where building and landmark sponsors open their doors to the public for behind-the-scenes tours and programs.

As part of the celebration, free guided walking tours of downtown Youngstown will focus on the architecture and history of local buildings. Tours will leave every 30 minutes from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 10.

Free admission to the building, tours and museum are included. The event will include light refreshments. Admission and self-guided tours of the museum will be free during the event.

Established in 1966, the National Historic Preservation Act has been instrumental in preserving the historic fabric of our cities and neighborhoods. It has transformed the face of communities from coast to coast, establishing the legal framework and incentives to preserve historic buildings, landscapes and archaeology.
