BIDEN VISIT | Veep says Clinton superior to Trump

LORDSTOWN — Vice President Joe Biden says he knows there are some voters not excited by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, but she is clearly superior to Republican Donald Trump.

“She never yields, she does not break. She stands up,” Biden said of Clinton during a speech today at the United Auto Workers Local 1714 union hall.

Clinton strongly backs American workers and unions while Trump says that American workers make too much money, Biden said.

“Do you think Donald Trump will try to do anything to help labor?” Biden said.

During his speech, Biden said he wouldn't be vice president if it wasn't for organized labor.

Biden said when he and President Barack Obama entered the White House, the two Democrats were told to “let the [auto] industry collapse.”

Biden said, “They were saying American workers were not productive. That you couldn't compete with the Japanese. You couldn't compete with the Germans.”

But Biden said he and Obama fought the auto industry, which made a comeback after a 2009 federal government bailout.

Biden is in the Mahoning Valley stumping for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Former Gov. Ted Strickland, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, introduced Biden.

“This man knows us. He knows Ohio and he knows America,” Strickland said of Biden.

There's “nobody I admire more than Ted Strickland,” Biden said when he took the podium.

Biden then switched to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. He said his biggest problem with Trump is “the way he treats people.”

The crowd of about 200 people enthusiastically greeted Biden.
