The Girard Recreation Department is announcing that there will be walking exercise available to residents in the Girard City Gym, 100 W. Main St., from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday beginning next Monday.

Free coats for kids

YOUNGSTOWN

KB’s Dog House, 2838 Mahoning Ave., together with Starting Over Again: A Chance To Do Better, will be offering free coats and lunch to children age 5 to 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12.

Coats will be limited to three per family and parents must provide the child’s birth certificate. No exceptions will be made.

Food-safety event

CORTLAND

The Ohio State University Trumbull County Extension Office, 520 W. Main St., will be the site of a food-safety training session for farmers selling produce to help them reduce the risk of on-farm contamination.

The session, offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 9, will cover pre-and post-harvest water quality, worker training, health and hygiene, manure and compost handling and issues pertaining to domestic and wild animals.

Training sessions pertaining to pesticide and fertilizer application certification or re-certification will be offered at the Mahoning County Extension Office, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield, on various days in November and December. For information and registration, call 330-533-5538.
