MEN WIN HORIZON LEAGUE CROSS COUNTRY TITLE

KENOSHA, WIS.

The Youngstown State men’s cross country team earned its first Horizon League cross country title in program history with an impressive performance at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. YSU finished with 48 points to earn a 20-point decision over UIC which had 68 points. YSU placed its five runners in the top 14 spots to clinch the title on a warm day in Wisconsin. The Penguins were one point shy of winning the title last year and found redemption on Saturday. YSU was led by junior Ryan Sullivan’s third-place finish (25:14) and fellow all-league honoree Ethan Wilson in the eighth spot (25:57). Alan Burns placed 11th at 26:19 while Tristan Dahmen earned Freshman-of-the-Year accolades and was the top freshman performer while finishing 12th (26:21).

The women were fourth led by an impressive run by senior McKinsie Klim. Klim placed third with a time of 22:03.8. Michelle Klim was 16th with a time of 23:01.

BOWLING TEAMS WINS THREE TIMES SATURDAY

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J.

The Youngstown State bowling team earned three wins, including one over No. 6 Sam Houston State, in five traditional team matches on Saturday at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree. The tournament is being held at Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, N.J. The Penguins sit ninth in total pins for the weekend with 8,835. Nikki Mendez was the top individual for the Penguins with three games over 200 and a total of 976. That was the 12th-highest total in the entire field.

VALPO RALLIES TO BEAT VOLLEYBALL IN FOUR SETS

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown State volleyball team got 14 kills from Sam Brown and 10 blocks from Lori Vanbeek in a 3-1 loss to Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon at Beeghly Center. The set scores were 20-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18. Emily Campbell and Taylor Graboski had 16 kills apiece to lead the Crusaders. YSU never trailed in the opening set, and the Penguins led after the score was tied 5-5. YSU will play at Oakland Friday at 7 p.m.
