Gorant Chocolatier is Lending a Hand to Stop Hunger in the Mahoning Valley this holiday season by hosting its second annual food drive Nov. 1-17. Customers can donate nonperishable food items and receive 5 percent off their purchase for each item donated (up to 25 percent).

Participating locations are Boardman, 8301 Market St., and Canfield/Westford Commons, 4259 Boardman-Canfield Road.

The most needed food items include boxed stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, canned yams, canned vegetables and gravy mix. Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, a member of Feeding America, assists 148 hunger-relief programs in the Tri-County area. These include church pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, shelters for battered women, and after-school programs. Brownlee Woods

The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association’s October meeting is canceled for the Halloween holiday. Its meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 E Midlothian Blvd. Refreshments and social time will begin at 6 p.m. and the business meeting begins at 6:30. This will be the last meeting for 2016 due to meeting dates falling on or near Thanksgiving and Christmas. Officer nominations are being considered for the election at the January meeting. Anyone interested in placing their name in nomination should notify the organization at 330-782-1022.

Caffeinate and Paint

CANFIELD

The Creative Arts and Design students from the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center have partnered with High Octane Coffee in Canfield to host the first “Caffeinate and Paint” at the school. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Joyce Brooks Center at MCCTC, 7300 N. Palmyra Road.

Volunteers needed

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Commons Association is seeking community members to install a mural project titled “Project Yo” from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 5 at the Western Reserve Transit Authority headquarters, 604 Mahoning Ave. Volunteers will install more than 25,000 multicolored chain-link fence inserts under the guidance of project organizers. All materials and instructions will provided to volunteers upon arrival and light refreshments will be served. An $850 cash prize will also be awarded to “Random Acts of Artists” whose design was selected by MCA members at their annual meeting earlier this month.

The project is funded by the Raymond J. Wean Foundation’s Neighborhood SUCCESS Program with organizing assistance from Youngstown CityScape.
