Early voting hours

In-person early voting hours this weekend at county boards of elections are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Also, early voting is 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To vote early in Mahoning County, go to the board of elections at Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., in Youngstown.

In Trumbull County, the location is 2947 Youngstown Road SE in Warren, and for Columbiana County voters, the board office is at 7989 Dickey Drive in Lisbon.

Case to grand jury

CANFIELD

A case in which a man is accused of drawing anti-Semitic graffiti throughout Mill Creek Park will go to a Mahoning County grand jury to decide whether to indict Scott Spencer, 25, of Hood Drive. Spencer, with a large cross dangling from his neck, appeared in Mahoning County Area Court here Friday for a hearing on charges of felony ethnic intimidation and misdemeanor criminal mischief. Judge Scott D. Hunter bound the case over to a grand jury.

The charges stem from several incidents in September in which park users reported finding anti-Semitic messages drawn in chalk at various locations in the park. Spencer and his attorney, James S. Gentile, declined to comment Friday.

Sobriety checkpoint

CANFIELD

The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will have a sobriety checkpoint in Mahoning County today to intercept and deter impaired drivers. Officers will conduct a roadside check of drivers for alcohol and drug impairment.

Specific details of the checkpoint will be announced at a later time, Saturation patrols also will be conducted throughout the weekend.

Free dinner

YOUNGSTOWN

Nevels Temple Church, 939 Elm St., will offer a free dinner to those in need after the service between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Sunday. The menu is chicken, turkey, barbecue ribs, ham, macaroni and cheese, string beans, vegetables, dressing, mashed potatoes, casseroles, desserts, bread, punch and potato salad. Carry out will not be available.

Fall Gospel Skate

WARREN

Second Baptist Church, 1510 Main Ave. SW, will present a Fall Gospel Skate from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Champion Skate, 5040 Mahoning Ave. This event will feature the latest in gospel and Christian music as well as offer fun, safe, family-friendly activities for all ages. Admission is free and skate rental is $3.

This year’s theme is “Party with a Purpose.” Attendees are asked to bring new, travel-sized dental supplies to support a mission trip to El Salvador in November sponsored by Teen Straight Talk, www.teenstraighttalk.com. The goal is to send 3,000 packets of supplies, and all Mahoning Valley churches and communities are welcome to participate.
