The Relay for Life of Austintown teams kicked off the season with a bowling event at Wedgewood Lanes on Oct. 2.

This is the second year the Relay for Life team has hosted their relay kick off event at Wedgewood Lanes. Members from the relay team came to the lanes and bowled, enjoyed some snacks and the company of other relay members. The kick off event allowed the Relay for Life of Austintown committee members to give out information to the teams about the different events leading up to the Relay for Life in the summer.

There are around 20 different teams, and more than 80 people, involved in the Austintown Relay for Life. There are Austintown Fitch High School students, members of the Austintown Hollywood Gaming Casino and several others who make teams for Relay for Life.

A table was set up with raffle baskets, a 50/50 basket, clothing and other relay items for sale to raise money. The Austintown Relay for Life hosts several other events throughout the year to help raise money and bring community members together.

“Typically our kick offs were just like meetings. This way we thought we could do something fun and there’s all kinds of different age groups here,” said Kelly Phillips, the event chair.

Wedgewood Lanes allowed everyone a $10 budget which included two games, shoes and a $5 given back to the teams.

The Austintown Relay for Life is set for June 3, 2017.
