CORTLAND

A sudden death penalty kick goal by Erin Sindledecker led Champion (13-3-3) to the Division III Kent district championship. The Flashes got a second half goal from Carli Swipas. Champion goalie Molly Williams had six saves. Tricia Fowler scored the lone goal for Rootstown (10-7-2). Goalie Meghan Hahn had 16 saves. Champion will play in a regional semi-final Tuesday against Ashland Mapleton at 7p.m. at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School.

VOLLEYBALL

Aquinas 25-25-25, Southern 18-22-11

COLUMBIANA

Lizzie Willis and Anna Sevek each had seven kills as Southern (20-6) fell in the Division IV district final. Sevek also scored a team-high 10 points and Aliva Brothers had eight digs. Katie Heistand had 17 kills and four blocks for St. Thomas Aquinas, who advances to the Lake Regional.
