Canfield city and township residents can participate in 2016 food drive

The Canfield Lions Club, the LEOs youth group (A Lions Club affiliate organization), the Knight of Columbus, Canfield Community CareNet and the Canfield Rotary Club are geared up for the 2016 Andy Skrobola Memorial Holiday Food Drive.

LEOs and others will be placing door hangers on doors of city and township residents Oct. 29 through Nov. 1. These are requests to fill a bag with food and other items and place on the porch.

“This is such a great event,” said organizer Phil Bova. “So many residents participate and the various non-profit groups make it meaningful for those who receive the donations.”

On Nov. 5, volunteers from all organizations will be picking up the bags from doorsteps. Filled food bags can also be dropped off at any Canfield fire station.

The food and other items will be distributed to those in need of assistance on Nov. 19 for Thanksgiving and again on Dec. 17 for Christmas.

In addition to the items donated by Canfield residents, Thanksgiving turkeys will be supplied by the Lions Club, hams by the Knights of Columbus, food vouchers by Community CareNet and warm coats by the Rotary Club.

The food drive is named for the late Andy Skrobola, the Lions and Knights member and former city councilman who made the event a reality for so many years.
