YOUNGSTOWN

The New Music Guild will kick off its 2016-17 concert season with a performance by Dulci-More at 4 p.m. Sunday at Saints Peter and Paul Church, Holy Apostles Parish, 421 Covington St.

Bill Schilling, founder and director of Dulci-More, will make a special concert appearance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson Congregational Church (UCC) in Jefferson, Ashtabula County.

Both concerts are free.

Schilling founded Dulci-More, a mountain music and hammered dulcimer group, 23 years ago. The group employs a variety of acoustic instruments, including guitar, autoharp, harmonica, mandolin, ukulele, banjo, string bass, bowed psalterie, whistle, flute, recorder, fiddle, cello, marimbula, keyboard, percussion instruments, jug and others.

The New Music Guild’s sponsorship of Dulci-More is in keeping with its mission of inclusiveness. Its primary mission has been the promotion and performance of music by living composers of a variety of styles.

The two upcoming concerts will feature songs and instrumentals by living composers, and like all folk music, also will tell a story about the life and times of common folks.
