Halloween spending is expected to reach $8.4 billion this year – $1.5 billion more than in 2015. To put the financial magnitude of the holiday in perspective, fhe personal-finance website WalletHub has unearthed some scary numbers:
v $547.9 million: Halloween candy sales (fourth biggest candy-selling holiday)
v $300-plus million: Annual revenue from ticket sales to haunted attractions (80 percent of which are charity-operated)
v 72 percent: Share of parents who say they steal Halloween candy from their kids
v 34.1 percent: Share of Americans who are throwing or attending a Halloween party
v 1.58 billion: Pounds of pumpkins produced in the United States each year. The top states for pumpkin harvests are New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and California.
“Rectify” (10 p.m., Sundance TV): “Rectify,” one of television’s best dramas, kicks off its farewell season. Former death-row inmate Daniel Holden (Aden Young) is technically a free man, but that doesn’t mean his new life in Nashville isn’t without complications.
“Jon Glaser Loves Gear” (10 p.m., truTV): This new “hybrid” comedy series follows Glaser (“Parks and Recreation”) as he tries to make a reality series about his love of various gadgets. Of course, things repeatedly go wrong.
