WARREN

A city woman told police she was assaulted outside her home early Saturday by two people dressed as clowns.

Officers report to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, that they spoke with a 27-year-old woman who was bleeding from a bump on her head the size of a golf ball.

The woman, who police say was highly intoxicated, told police that she pulled into the driveway of her Laird Avenue Northeast home just before 3 a.m. Saturday when she spotted two people dressed as clowns standing near her side door.

She told police that when she got out of her car, one of the clowns hit her, knocking her to the ground.

Police say the woman also changed her story. She told them later the clowns came out of nowhere and struck her in the head after she unlocked the side door of her home. The woman was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment of her head injury.

YSU student wins gold at figure-skating event

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University sophomore Corey Carbone of Boardman took home a gold medal from the 2016 National Showcase Figure Skating Competition. An Erie, Pa., native, Carbone, has been skating for 11 years and skating competitively for nine. “I saw the U.S. Nationals on TV one year, and it really inspired me to put on some skates, go to the local ice rink and try it out,” he said.

Film on climate change to be shown at YSU

Attendees may screen a film about climate change at 7 p.m. today in Youngstown State University’s Cushwa Hall B112.

A Skype question-and-answer session with the filmmaker, Josh Fox, will follow. “How to Let Go of the World and Love All The Things Climate Can’t Change,” acknowledges it may be too late to stop some of the consequences of climate change. Fox is an Oscar-nominated director.

Man pleads guilty to child-porn charges

WARREN

Richard J. Beish, 44, of North Park Extension in Bristolville, pleaded guilty Monday to 10 charges accusing him of disseminating child pornography from a computer. He will be sentenced in about a month.

The offenses date from 2011, according to his indictment.

Beish pleaded guilty to eight counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor and two counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance. He was charged after an online investigation by Champion police and the FBI.

Mineral Ridge man charged with rape

WARREN

A Trumbull County grand jury indicted Larry N. Herber Jr., 75, of Main Street in Mineral Ridge Monday on a charge of raping a child.

The Weathersfield Police Department handled the investigation. Herbert is accused of an offense dating back to 2011. If convicted, he could get a life prison sentence.

Liberty trustees will discuss benefits

The Liberty Township trustees will meet with the township insurance agent to discuss insurance benefits at 1 p.m. today at the administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road. The meeting will adjourn into executive session to consider benefits for employees. No decision will be made.

No-parking signs

Township Administrator Mike Dockry announced no-parking signs will be put on North Kimberly Avenue from 103 N. Kimberly to Mahoning Avenue. This is a result of a number of resident complaints about excess parking on their street leading to a collection of signatures of more than half of the affected residents.

“A lot of times by law [trustees] are restricted, but there’s ways people who want to do something can do that themselves,” said Trustee Chairman Ken Carano.

Lordstown meeting

The Lordstown Board of Public Affairs will have a special meeting at 3:30 p.m. today at the administration building, 1455 Salt Springs Road, to discuss employee wage resolution and the budget.

Pokemon GO player to be arraigned

BOARDMAN

A township man will be arraigned todayin Mahoning County Area Court on multiple charges after his arrest 1:22 p.m. Friday after playing Pokemon GO.

Township police visited to St. Charles School on Westview Drive after receiving a call about a suspicious person walking around the school and getting in and out of a red truck. Police found Nathan Huk, 21, of Glenwood Avenue, playing the mobile game with the vehicle turned off. He told officers his name was Matthew.

Huk, with reportedly slow and slurred speech, later admitted he recently smoked marijuana and that his real name was Nathan. Police arrested him on a charge of obstructing official business.

Woman reports assault

WARREN

A woman, 23, of Kenilworth Avenue Northeast, reported that her boyfriend held her against her will at his house in Warren for two days and assaulted her from Thursday around noon to early Saturday.

When she attempted to leave, he threatened to do serious physical harm to her, she said. She eventually was able to leave. No charges had been filed as of Monday.

Skype lecture set on energy tools

YOUNGSTOWN

Soren Hermansen, farmer and CEO of the Samso Energy Academy, will be giving a free Skype lecture on renewable-energy development tools, including wind power, solar, biomass and more at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Cushwa Hall, Room B100, on the campus of Youngstown State University.

Hermansen is a speaker at conferences in universities all over the world. He is also a board member of OVE-The Danish organization for renewable energy and a workshop leader in a number of EU projects, such as Cradle 2 Cradle energy islands, barriers for biogas, wind studies, local engagement and ownership and more.

Fall fest in Struthers

STRUTHERS

Struthers Elementary School, 111 Euclid Ave., will host a fall fest Friday beginning with a parade at 12:30 p.m. The parade will travel up Ninth Street to Lincoln Avenue to Eighth Street and then back to the school via Elm Street. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will take place in the school gymnasium. Students will participate in other festivities and enjoy Halloween treats during the afternoon.

Faces drug charges

BOARDMAN

A North Lima man is facing a drug charge and has a hearing in Mahoning County Area Court today after authorities found him passed out from using heroin in a restaurant.

Police and fire officials found Luke Lenz, 27, of Market Street, unconscious Sunday morning with a syringe in the bathroom of Yankee Kitchen on Market Street, according to a police report.

After officials woke Lenz, he reportedly admitted using heroin in the bathroom and was transported to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

Police released him on a summons for possessing a drug-abuse instrument.
