Trumbull County Fairgrounds hosts district cross country

The first step for cross country teams looking to advance to state will compete at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds in Bazetta on Saturday.

Division III boys will begin the afternoon at 1:30 p.m. with defending state champion Maplewood competing. They’re expected to be one of the top four teams moving on to regionals. The top 16 individuals also qualify.

Following them will be Division II boys at 2:10 p.m. with 12 area schools competing. The top five teams and 24 individuals move on to regional competition Oct. 29 at Boardman.

Division I boys race at 2:50 p.m. and the team to look for is Howland. The Tigers boast Trumbull County champion Vincent Mauri and hope to be one of the top five teams advancing. The top 20 individuals also move on.

Division III girls will begin at 3:30 p.m. and the McDonald girls are the favorite to win a district title. The top six teams and 24 individuals advance.

Division II girls start at 4:10 p.m. Poland should highlight this race which only takes the top four teams but also 24 individuals.

Division I girls will close out the evening at 4:50 p.m. Austintown Fitch, Boardman, Canfield, Howland and Lakeside will all look to advance.
