Nightclub fire memorial reaches $2M goal
WEST WARWICK, R.I.
Organizers of the effort to build a permanent memorial at the site of the Station nightclub fire in Rhode Island say they have achieved their $2 million fundraising goal.
The Feb. 2003 blaze in West Warwick killed 100 people and injured more than 200.
The leadership committee of the Station Fire Memorial Park Campaign announced Monday that after years of fundraising, it had reached the $2 million mark.
The memorial park is expected to be dedicated in the spring and include granite monuments for each person who died.
The fire started when pyrotechnics for the rock band Great White set fire to flammable foam inside the club. Ty Longley, guitarist and a vocalist for the band and a native of Brookfield, Ohio, died in the blaze.
Schumer’s comments on Trump prompt boos
TAMPA, FLA.
Amy Schumer’s rant against Donald Trump apparently turned off some fans at her show in Tampa, Fla.
The comedian slammed the Republican presidential nominee and brought a fan who supported him onstage to question him about his decision. She responded to people booing by telling them to leave if they didn’t like her opinions. When some continued to boo, Schumer asked security to escort them out. She then discussed her strong support for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and for gun control.
A reporter for the Tampa Bay Times who attended the show counted roughly about 200 people walking out over the comments.
