SATURDAY’S OTHER MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL CONFERENCE GAMES

South Dakota State 19, North Dakota State 17

FARGO, N.D.

North Dakota State, the FCS team known for toppling FBS opponents, was taken down by one of its own — at home. Taryn Christion threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Jake Wieneke with one second left as South Dakota State rallied from 14 down and stunned the top-ranked Bison. SDSU (4-2, 3-0 Missouri Valley Football Conference) had been inside the Bison 5-yard line three previous times only to come up empty. But on fourth down, Wieneke ran at Jalen Allen and turned in time to catch a back-shoulder pass from Christion. Wieneke had six catches for 108 yards, while Dallas Goedert hauled in 11 passes for 150 yards and a score.

Illinois State 31, Southern Illinois 28

NORMAL, ILL.

Jake Kolbe threw three touchdown passes, James Robinson ran for 122 yards and a score and Illinois State held on to beat Southern Illinois. Sean Slattery kicked a career-long-tying 50-yard field goal with 12:45 to play. Kolbe hit Christian Gibbs for a 51-yard score and connected with Anthony Warrum for a 38-yard TD in the third quarter and Illinois State (3-4, 1-3 Missouri Valley) took a 28-21 lead into the fourth.

Western Illinois 38, Missouri State 35

SPRINGFIELD, MO.

Devon Moore made his only carry count as his second-effort on a 1-yard touchdown run lifted Western Illinois with less than a minute left to play. Moore, a 227-pound senior, capped an 11-play final drive with the winner when he took the handoff and hit the pile head-on, driving until he broke the plane, giving the Leathernecks (5-1, 2-1) a 38-35 lead with 43 seconds to go.

South Dakota 33, Indiana State 30, 2OT

TERRE HAUTE, IND.

Jacob Warner intercepted a pass in the second overtime to lift South Dakota. Miles Bergner, who kicked four field goals, connected for a 41-yarder in the second overtime before the Sycamores got possession, only to lose on a trick play when wide receiver Kelvin Cook’s pass was picked off. The Sycamores (3-4, 1-3 Missouri Valley) scored on Isaac Harker’s 23-yard pass to Miles Thompson with 1:59 left in regulation then tied the game on Jerry Nunez’s 42-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining.
