AMPED applications

The last day to send in applications for the Youngstown Business Incubator’s AMPED start-up competition is Monday. The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m.

Entrepreneurs, students and technology innovators from across the region are invited to compete AMPED YBI $100,000 technology start-up competition. Teams will have the opportunity to compete for up to $100,000 of investment funding offered though the YBI. This competition should not be regarded as a traditional business plan competition in which cash prizes are handed out to the winners. Rather, it should be considered as a funding opportunity for credible entrepreneurs looking to grow their early-stage start-up.

AMPED uses the PitchBurner platform to receive and manage applications. To enter, an individual representative from the team must complete the online enrollment form found at app.reviewr.com/s1/site/AMPED2016.

Postal seminar set

YOUNGSTOWN

Steel Valley Postal Customer Council will have a seminar at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 on the topic of “Effective Mail Piece Design.”

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., and Erv Drewek, manager of postal affairs for graphic communications, will begin his speech at 10 a.m.

After Drewek’s speech, Harry Meyers, U.S. Postal Service district manager of marketing, will speak, followed by networking at 11:30 a.m. Learn more or register at SteelValleyPCC.com,

Job skills workshops

YOUNGSTOWN

YWCA of Youngstown will have job skills workshops in October and November.

The four-week workshops will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday through Oct. 28 and staring again Nov. 1 through Nov. 18.

The workshops are open to anyone age 18 and over.

Topics include career assessment and exploration; soft skills, such as resume writing and interviewing; job stability; increasing income; and financial literacy. A $100 incentive will be given on completion of the entire program.

‘Good Evening’ event

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will have its “Good Evening, Boardman” event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Magic Tree Pub & Eatery, 7463 South Ave.

Attendees will hear updates from township Trustee Tom Costello, schools Superintendent Tim Saxton and park Commissioner Joyce Mistovich.

There also will be a presentation on the school/township property swap that will result in the construction of a new fire station and school bus garage.
